ENG1 Medicals
The ENG1 is the official medical certificate for seafarers working on commercial vessels, including those in the merchant navy, fishing industry, and on superyachts. This medical is required for roles where safety at sea is critical and must be completed by an MCA-approved doctor.

• Height, weight, vision and hearing checks
• Blood pressure and urine testing
• Cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal assessments
If you pass the medical, you will receive an ENG1 certificate, valid for up to 2 years.

The ML5 is suitable for seafarers in non-commercial or less safety-critical roles, such as crew on small commercial vessels (under 24 metres) not going far from shore, or for those applying for certain skipper licenses and boatmaster qualifications.

• Medical history review
