What does the medical involve?

Dr Gill and Dr Drake are male doctors, if you would like a female chaperone present during the examination please inform the receptionist at the time of booking.

Fees:
The fee for an ENG1 & ML5 Medical is £115. We ask to take the full payment prior to the appointment – this can be paid over the phone via card or you can visit our reception prior to your medical and pay with cash, or card.

ENG1 Medical

An ENG1 Medical can last up to two years, depending on if you are medically fit. The appointment will take 40 minutes to be carried out.  If you do require a duplicate ENG1 Certificate there will be a admin fee of £65 to produce this.

Please note that if your BMI is > 35 you may be required to carry out a Chester Step test which will be an additional fee and will need to be carried out in a separate appointment.

What to bring with you:

  • Previous ENG1 Medical Certificate; unless new entrant. Your previous certificate must be surrendered to the Approved Doctor when attending your appointment.
  • A form of identification. This must be an original passport, driving license, or seamans/discharge book. These are the only photo ID’s accepted by the MCA. Scanned copies held on electronic devices are NOT acceptable.
  • If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring these to your appointment. Contact lenses should be removed 12 hours before your appointment. If this is not possible, remove on arrival and bring fluid to reinsert lenses following your medical.
  • If you have not had an eye test in the last 2 years and wear glasses, we recommend you have an eyesight test prior to your appointment.
  • Any medication, recent letters, discharge notes, vision test results or relevant information which relates to medical treatment since your last medical.
  • Avoid loud noises up to 16 hours before your appointment as you will be required to carry out a hearing test as part of the medical.
