Vaccinations

Many occupations may present an infection risk and an employer will no doubt wish to minimise this by ensuring all necessary vaccinations have been offered to vulnerable employees.

» Yellow Fever

Occupational (or social) travel to many countries, necessitates Yellow Fever vaccination and a certificate from an officially designated Yellow Fever vaccination centre. We can meet these requirements and also meet any other travel health needs for your employees.

» Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a blood-borne virus which has infected over a quarter of the world's population (over 2 billion people). Infection can be long-term and in some cases, cause liver cancer. At risk employees may include healthcare workers, police officers, laboratory staff, cleaning/maintenance staff and workers on seagoing vessels.

» Tetanus

This potentionally fatal infection may be acquired if a wound is contaminated with soil or animal material. Occupations at risk include animal, agricultural and horticultural workers.

» Hepatitus A & Typhoid

These infections are transmitted faeco-orally and vaccination is most relevant to sewer workers and those involved in refuse collection/waste management.

Employment Health/Medical Check

Assessing a person's ability to carry out the duties of the job can be an important selection tool. Employment medical checks should be seen as a way of:

  • Screening candidates in, not screening them at...
  • Identifying any risks to prospective employees, colleagues or clients.
  • Identifying any support needed by the prospective employee to do the job effectively.
  • Identifying any disability issues such as potential reasonable adjustments.
  • Identifying any potential attendance problems.
  • Providing a base-line of health for future reference.
  • Workplace occupational health.
  • Making the best use of occupational health consultants.

The level of check can take various forms, from verifying the number of day's absence with the previous employer to requiring the employee to undergo a thorough medical examination. The type of check that is undertaken should depend upon the requirements of the job.
